You are not buying an appliance.
You are bringing nature home.
There are products that you simply plug in and they work.
And then there's your Stéfani filter.
A clay filter is not just another "machine" in the kitchen. It doesn't work like a toaster, a coffee maker, or an industrial purifier. It is a living object, natural and artisanal, made of clay, water, minerals, and time.
And therein lies its magic.
When you choose a Stéfani, you choose a slower, more conscious, and natural way of relating to water. But it's also important to understand that, like everything natural, it needs care, patience, and a small welcoming ritual.
Because yes: during the first few days, it may smell intensely of clay, small white marks may appear, and you will need to dedicate a few minutes to weekly maintenance.
We'll tell you all about it...
Clay: a natural material
Stéfani filters are made of natural fired clay.
Its porosity is precisely what allows it to filter water slowly and effectively, helping to reduce impurities and keeping water naturally fresh.
But that same porosity means that clay:
- reacts to the environment,
- is sensitive to knocks and abrupt changes,
- and needs certain basic care.
It's much more like caring for a plant than using an appliance. It doesn't require complications, but it does require attention and affection.

The welcoming ritual
The first few days with your Stéfani.
One of the things that surprises some people the most is the strong taste of clay - and the 100% toxin-free sealant - during the first few days of use.
And we want to tell you something important: it's completely normal.
Your filter is new, natural, and freshly made through an artisanal process. The clay has just been treated, it's still "alive" and needs a few days to stabilize in contact with water.
During the first week we recommend:
- submerge the clay parts in water completely for 24-48h (in the bathtub, a basin, etc.)
- air dry these clay parts for 24-48h (outdoors, on the balcony, or in a ventilated place... -
- perform several complete fillings and emptyings (you can use this water to water plants, boil pasta, etc...)
- keep the filter always filled with water
- and have patience with the initial taste

Gradually, the clay will settle and the taste will become much more neutral and pleasant. Until it tastes like spring water in less than 2 months, guaranteed.
For many people, this process even becomes a small ritual: a way to connect with the object, understand its nature, and begin a new relationship with water.

Efflorescence
Those small white and black marks
Another important point to know before buying a clay filter is efflorescence.
Have you ever seen small white spots or powder on the outside of the filter?
That is mineral efflorescence.
And it is also completely normal.
It happens because clay is breathable, and as water evaporates, certain natural minerals can appear on the surface.
It's not mold.
It's not dirt.
And it does not affect the filter's performance.
In fact, it's a sign that the clay is breathing and doing its job.

The weekly maintenance your Stéfani needs
Just as you care for plant leaves or air out a house, your filter also needs a little regular maintenance.
The good news: it's very simple.
Once a week we recommend:
-
cleaning the entire outer clay surface with a clean cloth and water
-
removing any efflorescence with a damp cloth with vinegar or baking soda
Important:
Do not use harsh chemicals, bleach, or scented detergents. Clay easily absorbs odors and substances.
With simple care, your Stéfani can accompany you for many years.

The beauty of the imperfect
Each Stéfani filter is unique.
It may have small color variations, natural marks from the clay, or aesthetic changes over time. That is part of its artisanal essence.
In a world full of plastic, industrial production, and disposable objects, a clay filter reminds us of something important:
Nature is not perfect.
And that's precisely why it's wonderful.
*This is our first Stéfani after 12 years of use!
So… is it for you?
A Stéfani filter is probably for you if:
- you value natural materials,
- you enjoy daily rituals,
- you prefer slow and conscious processes,
- and you understand that caring for something is also part of enjoying it.
Because more than buying a filter, you are inviting nature to be part of your kitchen and your daily life.
And that completely changes the water experience.
A hug,
Idoia and Ferran - The La Stéfani Team.
